Some thoughts on Is-Deitlau yn Unig

I have just finished writing a review of this superb book by Emyr Glyn Williams for my column in next week's Herald Gymraeg (Daily Post, 26th August)
The Herald  review will be a pretty straight one about the cultural value of this book - the first time a Welsh language writer has discussed at length those subtitled films we call 'Foreign Films'. This very fact means that Emyr has contributed another piece of the jigsaw to the Welsh cultural landscape - which is an on-going 'mission' that many of us have been involved with over the years. (Emyr like many of us from our generation has been involved over the years in the alternative Welsh music scene - he runs Ankst Records)
I won't do a review here and now so as not to subvert the Herald piece next week. Neither will I discuss many of the very valid cultural points that Emyr raises in the book about the state of Welsh culture. Needless to say his assessment of S4C and the hilarious analogy used is something that deserves further attention, as are the Welsh obsessions of history, literature and poetry ........(discuss) .......
So many points are raised by Emyr, that I am tempted to do a follow up piece for the Herald in two weeks time and just concentrate on the cultural points raised.

In the meantime Emyr Glyn Williams will be my guest on MonFM next Monday (24th August) between 2 and 4pm when we can discuss the book at length and Emyr can select some of his top tunes, favourite albums / artists etc
I suspect that there will be a Gorky's track in there somewhere and probably Faust ...... you can listen live on www.monfm.net
